SCam Settings

Application settings are separated over General settings and Camera view tabs. Navigate between the tabs by clicking the arrows in the tab title area or using left and right keys.

General settings

Active Camera

Determines whether main camera (in the back of the device) or front camera should be used. This setting is not visible on devices with only one camera and on some devices, the front camera may not work correctly in landscape Screen orientation.

Resolution

Sets capture resolution for the active camera.

Note: On newer devices, which support both 4:3 and 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratios, this setting also determines the aspect ratio of the viewfinder and resulting images. For example, on N8, the highest available resolution is 4000x3000 (12 MPix, 4:3 aspect ratio), and second highest resolution is 4000:2248 (9 Mpix, 16:9 aspect ratio).

Jpeg quality

Sets Jpeg quality used for captured photos, allowing values between 20% and 100%. Default Jpeg quality value is 80%.

Storage

Sets the location storing captured photos. Phone memory is referred to as drive C, E is usually internal mass storage (where available) or memory card and F is memory card. Additional drive letters may be available if network drives have been mapped or a USB OTG device is in use.

In phone memory, the images are saved to subfolders of \Data\Photos\SCam and in other drives to subfolders of \Photos\SCam.

Screen orientation

Allows toggling between Landscape and Portrait screen orientations.

Image sensor of the main camera is usually meant to be used in landscape orientation, so the highest resolutions are not available in portrait mode. Some older devices do not properly support front camera in landscape mode, and the viewfinder and captured photos may appear rotated 90 degrees. In that case, use portrait orientation instead.

Show captured image

Determines whether the photo preview should be displayed during/after capture. If set to Off, black screen is displayed from pressing the shutter until the camera is ready to take another photo. If set to Quick, a quick preview image is displayed until camera is ready to take another photo. If set to On, the application will go to Image view after capture is complete, and the image can be zoomed, deleted or sent.

Off and Quick are the fastest way to take photos, and the latest image can still be viewed by pressing the View image button in the viewfinder view or menu grid.

Note: Quick only works on S60 3rd Edition FP2 and later devices.

Auto-rotate images

If set to On, the application automatically requests the correct orientation for captured photos depending on the device position during the capture. Set to Off by default.

Note: Only available on devices with orientation sensor support. Auto rotation interferes with zooming of the captured image: the initial preview received from device camera is not rotated, but the final photo is - when starting to zoom in to such a photo after capture, the photo will change from the preview rotation to actual image rotation.

Sound

Toggle camera sounds.

Start from camera button

If enabled, SCam will start from camera button press.

Store settings

Determines categories of settings, that should keep their values when exiting and restarting the application.

  • Ui state. If selected, Histogram, Horizon line and other widgets that were in use are still enabled
  • Capture mode. If selected, capture mode is same as before exiting (for example, Timelapse)
  • Preset. If selected, preset is same as before exiting (for example, Macro)
  • Camera settings. If selected, all camera settings (Flash, Exposure compensation etc.) have same values as before exiting the application

Note: All settings are not available on all devices.

Camera view

Onscreen buttons

Determines whether the Capture, View captured image (film) and exit button should be displayed on top of the viewfinder.

Reverse volume keys

By default, volume up key zooms in (or increases value of another setting configured for the volume keys) and volume down key zooms out. For some devices, this may be counter-intuitive, and this setting can be used to reverse the functionality, eg. make volume up key zoom out and volume down key zoom in.

Volume keys function

Setting to be changed in camera view using the volume keys. Default setting: zoom.

Swipe display function

Setting to be changed in camera view when swiping the screen. Dragging finger up and/or right increases the setting value, down and/or left decreases the setting value. Default setting: zoom.

Up/down keys function

Setting to be changed in camera view using the up and down keys. Default setting: zoom.

Left/right keys function

Setting to be changed in camera view using the left and right keys. Default setting: none.
